Applying for your Danish Residency Permit

This will be a quick post, but hopefully it'll clear up any confusion regarding the application process for your Danish visa/residence permit. It was pretty confusing when I was trying to get everything done, so I broke it down into a simple list that you can follow to a T.

This is everything you need to do, after being nominated by MIX, and accepted by CBS:

1. CBS will send you an acceptance email, and a separate email containing your official acceptance letter and an ST1 application. The ST1 is the residency permit you will need to legally reside in Denmark during your semester abroad (it's technically not a visa, since visas are meant for shorter stays).

2. Go to this website and create a case order ID for your application. Then, pay the fee (on the same website). Print the receipt of payment (or a statement from bank), payment status from the website is insufficient.

3. Pay another fee to the Danish Embassy in their webshop (the residence/work permit fee). Print proof of payment.

4. Fill out the ST1 application and print it out.

5. Make an appointment to submit your application & have your biometrics done at VFS Global in San Francisco (this is the closest location to Hawaii). Pay the handling fee (your application will be sent to New York), and print the appointment cover letter and payment receipt.

6. Collect the following for your appointment, print out all documents:

   - Proof of payment for the case order ID (from step 2).

   - Proof of payment for the Danish Embassy fee (from step 3).

   - Documentation of enrollment at UH Manoa (requested online from registrar).

   - Documentation proving you can financially support yourself (e.g. bank statement from the last 30 days; must have a minimum of DKK 7,426 per month, so approximately DKK 37,130 since your stay is roughly 5 months, maybe have 6 months worth just in case)

   - Signed sworn declaration form (saying provided information is correct); can be found here under "Gather document and declarations"

   - Passport & a photocopy of all pages; they will take your passport

   - Printed VFS appointment letter & receipt (from step 5).

   - Official acceptance letter from CBS (likely included in the same .pdf file as the ST1 application)

   - If you are under the age of 18: a signed declaration of consent from your parents/guardians, a copy of your birth certificate, and a copy of the data page in your parents' passport (consent form found here)

   - If under the age of 18: your educational institution must sign and stamp a declaration that they will ensure that the applicant has proper residence and study conditions in Denmark (declaration also downloaded here)

7. Go to your appointment at VFS in San Francisco, bringing all the documentation listed in step 6. Note: as previously mentioned, they will take your passport for your application! Make sure you have proper ID to fly back to Hawaii!

8. Decision will be made, and your passport will be sent back to you.

Hopefully this helps, I know the SIRI website does have a checklist but I thought it would be useful to combine all of the steps starting from your CBS acceptance, and sharing some additional things I noticed during my application process. Thanks for reading!
